Services

One on One Nutrition Counseling

Each student athlete has different needs, with one on one nutrition counseling those needs can be identified and recommendations can be made to help achieve them. All West Virginia University athletes have the opportunity to receive individualized nutrition education and counseling with personalized meal plans.

Body Composition Analysis

Body composition analysis using the InBody and/or Skin Fold Calipers can be performed to monitor trends and identify student athletes who may have excessively low or high amounts of non-lean body mass which can be detrimental to health and athletic performance. Body composition analysis can also provide the Sports Dietitian and the student athlete with important information relating to the athletes adequate amount of intake.

Diet Analysis

Student athletes can bring a diet record of their current intake and have it analyzed for nutritional quality. Based upon the results of the analysis, recommendations are given specific to the individual athlete and their goals.

Team Education

Team education is done by the Sports Dietitian in a manner of different way. Team talks, team food tasting, cooking demos, field trips, social media (Twitter, Facebook, podcast, Youtube), emails, handouts, bulletin board posts, text messages, locker room posters, etc. Team education is designed to increase the nutrition knowledge of the student athlete. Education presented is specific to the team goals.

Grocery Store Tours/Shopping

Any athlete that needs assistance going to the grocery store to stock up on nutrient dense, performance enhancing foods can have the Sports Dietitian come along. This educational service is something that many students use. Grocery store tours are not just “purchase this food and not this one” but it’s more “this is WHY you should purchase this food instead of this one”. Plan for shopping to take at least 1 hour to complete.

Food Tastings

Food Tastings are set up on coaches to help student athletes identify what types of snacks they like to help with performance.

Cooking Demos

Cooking demo are done in conduction with Sodexo and are held either for teams or open to all student athletes. These cooking demos are used for basic instruction to help build life skills.
